Perlite Compound
Perlite is a Slag-Holding compound is added as a slag coagulant in continues induction furnace and in molten metal pouring ladles, prior to pouring in the mould. It may be added either to the surface of the bath after the ladles is filled or to the bottom of the ladle after a heel of molten metal has been poured. In application, Perlite has got tendency to exfoliate on the temperature above 800 oC, so it will expand when it comes into contact with melt, forming a lightweight, viscous cellular accumulation. This accumulation of Perlite attracts all individual slag particles in the metal, cleans the metal by coagulating impurities, floating them up to the slag layer and also re-entry of the impurities into the metal. Perlite also helps in reducing Sulphur and Phosphorus compounds in the melt.

Perlite Ore mixed with Raw Vermiculite can be a superior ladle topping agent Since, exfoliation of Vermiculite is an endothermic reaction, so it helps to maintain the high temperature in ladle, also removes non-metallic inclusions in excess.

Perlite is an amorphous volcanic glass that has a relatively high water content, typically formed by the hydration of obsidian. Perlite occurs naturally and has the unusual property of greatly expanding when heated sufficiently. Perlite is an industrial mineral and a commercial product useful for its light weight after processing.
Because of its low density and relatively low price, many commercial applications for perlite have developed. In the construction and manufacturing fields, exfoliated perlite is used in lightweight plasters and mortars, insulation and ceiling tiles. In horticulture, perlite can be used as a soil amendment or alone as a medium for hydroponics or for starting cuttings. When used as an amendment perlite has high permeability / low water retention and helps prevent soil compaction. Perlite is an excellent filter aid, being used extensively as an alternative to diatomaceous earth. The popularity of perlite usage in this application is growing considerably worldwide. Perlite filters are fairly commonplace in filtering beer before it is bottled. Small quantities of perlite are also used in foundries, cryogenic insulation, as a lightweight aggregate in mortar (firestop) and in ceramics as a clay additive. Perlite is also used by the explosives industry.
Exfoliated perlite is also used in refractories in the manufacture of tundish boards. Another major application of exfoliated perlite is in sound proofing. Expanded/Exfoliated perlite is used in the manufacture of accoustics for buildings, offices. We currently offer Perlite only in raw/unexpanded form.
